Why Should You Crochet a Criss-Cross Dishcloth?

The Criss-Cross Dishcloth is a super easy, beginner-friendly pattern that works up quickly. It is a great pattern for any level of crocheter!

Your finished Criss-Cross Dishcloth would be a great gift for a housewarming party, a stocking stuffer, or that person that is hard to shop for, because honestly, who couldn’t use a brand new dishcloth?

This pattern uses only basic stitches like HDC and DC worked in a criss-cross pattern. These stiches work up really quickly with a larger hook, so this pattern is really fast compared to some other dishcloth designs.

Made with scrubby cotton yarn, this finished dishcloth works great to get difficult dirt and grime off of dishes without making the dishcloth too coarse.

What Supplies Do You Need to Crochet a Criss-Cross Dishcloth?

Yarn: Red Heart Scrubby Cotton (Worsted Weight – 4) – I used the colors Loofa, Denim, and Jade

Hook: I9/5.5 mm Crochet Hook – I love using my Clover Amour ergonomic hook

Tools: Scissors, Yarn Needle, Stitch Markers

Recommended Yarn

I used Red Heart Scrubby Cotton yarn for this pattern, however, that yarn has unfortunately been discontinued. I also worked up another dishcloth in this pattern using Yarn Bee Scrub-ology Cotton and it worked up almost identically.

Alternative Yarn Options

As mentioned above, the yarn used for this pattern is unfortunately out of production. Some great alternatives would be:

Tools

Gauge (Essential)

Using a I9/5.5 mm crochet hook and worsted weight yarn:

8 HDC = 1.5 inches and 4 rows = 1.4 inches

What Size is the Criss-Cross Dishcloth?

The finished Criss-Cross Dishcloth is approximately a 7 inch by 7 inch square.

Abbreviations (US Terms)

  • Ch – Chain
  • HDC – Half Double Crochet
  • DC – Double Crochet
  • FO – Finish Off

Special Stitches

Cross Stitch – To complete a cross stitch, you need to skip the first stitch, double crochet in the second stitch, and then double crochet in the stitch that you had previously skipped.

Here is a great video tutorial by Hooked by Robin that explains how to complete a cross stitch.

Tips Before You Begin

The scrubby yarn used for this project does not frog well if you make a mistake. If you need to go back in the pattern at all or start over, be very careful pulling out your stitches or just cut the end and start fresh with unused yarn.

I ask that you please do not copy, sell, republish, or redistribute this pattern. You may sell items produced using this pattern (in fact, I hope you do!), however, please do not use my photos for your product listing.
