Mini Belly Ellie Unicorn Inspiration

Here are some finished Mini Belly Ellie Unicorns to inspire you!

Unicorn Modification Pattern

Begin by making the body of the Mini Belly Ellie Elephant. This includes making the two arms, two legs, and finishing off the body and the head. When finished, it should look like the following picture.

Once the body is complete, you will use the modified pattern below to make your unicorn.

Horn

The horn is worked from the tip downward and lightly stuffed before sewing.

In horn color,

Round 1: 4 SC into magic circle (4)

Round 2: 4 SC (4)

Round 3: [INC, SC] x 2 (6)

Round 4: 6 SC (6)

Round 5: [2 SC, INC] x 2 (8)

Round 6: 8 SC (8)

Round 7: [3 SC, INC] x 2 (10)

Round 8: 10 SC (10)

Finish off. Leave a long yarn tail for sewing. Horn does get stuffed.

Unicorn Ears (Make 2)

These simplified ears replace the elephant ears from the original pattern.

In main color,

Round 1: 7 SC into magic circle

Round 2: INC x 7 (14)

Fold ear in half and SC 2 through both sides.

Finish off and leave long tail for sewing. Weave in end on the back of the ear.

Muzzle

This gives the face a softer horse/unicorn look instead of the elephant trunk.

In main color,

Chain 5.

Round 1: Start in 2nd chain from hook. On the bottom of the chain: 3 SC, INC. On opposite side of chain: 3 SC, INC (10)

Round 2: INC, 3 SC, INC x 2, 3 SC, INC (14)

Round 3: 14 SC (14)

Finish off. Leave a long yarn tail for sewing. Muzzle gets stuffed.

Mane Curls (Make 8-9)

In contrast color(s),

Chain 22.

Place 3 SC into each chain.

Finish off and leave a long yarn tail for sewing.

Tail Curls (Make 6-7)

In contrast color(s),

Chain 16.

Place 3 SC into each chain.

Finish off and leave a long yarn tail for sewing.

Assembly

Step 1: Sew on the Horn

The horn is sewn on more towards the front of the magic circle. Find your magic circle and count 2 rounds towards the face. Start sewing in that general area.

Step 2: Attach the Muzzle

The muzzle is sewn on between the eyes.

Step 3: Sew on the Ears

Ears are sewn 3-4 rounds away from the magic circle at the top of the head.

Step 4: Add the Mane

Mane curls are sewn on the head all around the horn. You can choose to place some in front of the horn or keep them all in the back.

Step 5: Add the Tail

Tail curls are sewn on the backside of the unicorn, a few rows up from the top of the legs and centered in the back.

Step 6: Embroider Details

Add nostril and eyebrow details with black worsted weight yarn.

Customize Your Unicorn

There are so many ways you can customize your Mini Belly Ellie Unicorn!

Colors

You can change out the colors of your unicorn to match any theme or inspiration you would like! Whether you are going for a solid color or full rainbow, each unicorn is sure to be unique!

Embellishments

You can add embellishments like crocheted flowers or bows to your unicorn to add some extra flair! I like to add small flowers around the base of the horn for my unicorns to cover up stitching and add a special touch.

Mixing Yarns

This pattern can work as a great stash buster because it is really easy to use all sorts of yarn for the mane and tail curls. I like mixing two strands of lighter weight yarns together – especially velvet and glittery acrylic yarn!

I hope you loved this pattern and feel inspired to make your own unicorn! If you do, please be sure to share your pictures and tag me on social media so I can see!
